DANCE
GO…
The Dance of Life
Rhythms are the patterns that mark our lives.
We engage in the slow swaying of laid back calm or the cha-cha of frenzied fast-paced days.
We enjoy the music that fills our souls and sets the pace of our day.
The rhythms identify who we are, how we live our lives and the focus of our days and nights.
All come together in the dance of life.
As the the seasons change so do the rhythms.
Each one points to the ups and downs, the easy and hard and the struggles or joys.
The dance swirls around us just as leaves float to the ground in the Fall.
The rhythm of the dance is the fingerprint of our current season.
[Tweet “The rhythm of the dance is the fingerprint of our current season. #fmfparty”]
God leads the dance of life.
He matches our cadence with His as we learn His rhythms.
Each step is a chance to learn how God wants us to live.
The music plays on until God chooses silence.
Then our season ends, but the dance continues as we gain a new home and a new rhythm.
There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens:
2 a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
3 a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
4 a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
5 a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,
6 a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
7 a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
8 a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace. Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
STOP
God blesses each of us with the dance of life. May we choose to live it well and dance like there’s no tomorrow.
Blessings,
Mary
Hi Mary! I think we are on the same page with dancing this week! I do think we are called to dance in the life we have, moving closer and closer to the steps the Lord wants us to follow. What joy there is in dancing!
Hoping that you are dancing today and loving the direction you are headed 🙂
Ceil
Thank you sweet, Ceil! Lovely words to find here at my little blogging home. There is something so beautiful and freeing about dancing through life with God. I am blessed that you joined me here and encouraged me so well. Love and blessings!
I love this so much. There’s so much going on in dancing. I haven’t appreciated it before I got to know Michael Jackson. There’s more to just movement for him. It’s being one with the divine.
Keep on dancing in life and in faith. 🙂
I love your description of dancing as being one with the divine. It is a beautiful image and one that I hold in my own heart. May we both keep on dancing in life and faith. Blessings!
Mary,
As a former dancer and mother to a daughter who teaches dance in the public schools…I love this!! I love the thought of rhythms changing with the seasons, or our seasons in life. I pray that my rhythms would match and follow God’s rhythms…when I’m in sync with Him, that’s life in the sweet spot.
Blessings,
Bev xx
I pray the same everyday too. There is nothing like staying in step with our God who offers to lead us in the dance of life. I am always blessed when you stop by and your encouraging words mean so much. Hugs my friend!
I love your take on this topic, Mary, and these words really spoke to me: “God leads the dance of life. He matches our cadence with His as we learn His rhythms.” I’d never really thought of God matching our cadence with His as my focus has always been more on how to try to sway with the unforced rhythms of His grace. Thank you for this insight! I wrote a poetic word on dance at poetryjoy.com today. It felt good to be back to letting words dance freely at FMF again. Sorry I’ve missed a few of your posts recently. Hope to catch up again soon. Have a blessed weekend! 🙂 x
You are so sweet just by being here. I am always filled with joy when you stop by. I love music, rhythm, dance, etc. and choosing this analogy for my FMF post just felt right. I love exploring and writing about the rhythms of our life. This was a segway from that love. Hope you are doing well. Thank you of blessing me today.
The dance of life – several have written with this as a theme – I don’t think I’ve ever heard the expression before. Hmm. I think I’ve been dancing all this time in a cave somewhere. Pretty post. Eccl 3 – my granddaughter Hannah is supposed to read that at my funeral – pleasant thought, eh? FMF#36
You make me smile, Susan! You have not been in a cave and the dance of life is just a beautiful analogy for how we go through each day, month, year, etc. I love that God is our partner and our job is to let Him lead. He will get us across the dance floor smoothly if we let Him. Love seeing you here! Hugs!
I love your take on this, Mary! The seasons of our lives are like a dance. My prayer is to dance well! Even if I have to stand on God’s feet most of the time 🙂
Life is definitely full of seasons. I’m enjoying my empty nest season immensely. But I do look forward to a season of grandparenting when that time arrives too (maybe in a couple more years?). I’m glad God does give us times and seasons enough to do what he has planned for us. Thanks for this reminder, Mary.
The word rhythm speaks so much to me. Thinking of the different seasons of life and the rhythms that come…the need for rhythms.
Thanks for your words.
One of my boys played “Lord of the Dance” for a piano recital, and all these posts on dancing today have got me singing!
“And I’ll lead you all, wherever you may be, and I’ll lead you all in the dance said He.”
This is what I want.
May we find grace to follow His leading.
I love the song “Lord of the Dance”. I wasn’t specifically thinking of that song when I was writing this but I feel it was in the recesses of my mind when I began. I pray we allow God to gently lead us in the dance He has prepared for each of us. Happy weekend blessings, my friend!
So good to have you back after Write 31 Days, Mary! We’ve missed you! I always appreciate your words of wisdom here. 🙂 Blessings on your weekend, as you continue to match your cadence to God’s in this dance called life.
Great to be back. I missed FMF too! I pray your weekend looks like a slow dance of rest and renewal. Thank you leading the FMF community so well. Happy weekend!
Mary, you said this so well, so gently, and so beautifully that I have tears in my eyes.
That almost never happens. Mercs don’t cry. (Well, OK, I guess you see through that…anyone who’d sell his life cheaply to defend a probably-lost cause because it’s the right thing to do has a sentimental streak a mile wide…mercenaries DO cry.)
Hey it’s okay to show a vulnerable side which you do very well. You teach all of us how to be authentic and say it like it is. I appreciate you and your words, Andrew.
I’m learning to dance like there’s no tomorrow–I’ve always been a little hesitant to embrace change (wanting to know exactly what’s next before I start the dance). This I do know–I can trust my partner and know He will lead me and keep me on my feet.
I am not good with change either and retirement is proving that to me. I just need to stand on God’s feet and trust He will lead me where I need to go. Thank you as always for being here. I love the connections we find when we share a little about life with each other. Blessings and love!
I love that Ecclesiastes verse. THIS: “God leads the dance of life.” I’m so glad God is leading because so often I forget to lead or want to take the lead away from him. We were thinking in similar directions tonight. I’m parked in the #6 spot.
I tend to want to lead the dance thinking all along I can manage it without help! Ha! It doesn’t take me long to remember that it is only with God that I am where I am today. So thankful we are in community together. Blessings for a beautiful weekend.
Such a great reminder!
Thank you Miranda! Glad you stopped by!
