When our blurred vision becomes clear again!

I gazed from across the width of the pool today as as an almost two year old grandson stood straight and tilted his head back to get a clear picture of his grandma who stood about two feet away.  Adjusting himself, the boy took several steps backward, stood tall and looked up at his grandma adoringly. With a few simple steps backward his vision became fresh and clear.

How often do we take the time to clear the path before us to see what is in front of us?

How often is the vision blurry because it is the easier path to follow?

Blurred picture

Take a look at this picture! The edges are fuzzy, the details are washed out and the lines are not readily distinguishable. I know there are days that feel and look like this picture – out of focus, out of sorts, foggy and without purpose. Our direction has been distorted and our goals are not clear.

Here is the same picture! Compare the differences and define the subject of the picture.Which picture feels more like you? Which picture describes who you want to be and how you will live your life?

not blurred

When our vision is blurry and unfocused it signals a lack of God in our lives. The world and all its many time-consuming pieces have overtaken our sight and God has become more like the out of focus picture above. James says it well in the following verses from The Message:

4-6 You’re cheating on God. If all you want is your own way, flirting with the world every chance you get, you end up enemies of God and his way. And do you suppose God doesn’t care? The proverb has it that “he’s a fiercely jealous lover.” And what he gives in love is far better than anything else you’ll find. It’s common knowledge that “God goes against the willful proud; God gives grace to the willing humble.”

Are you willing to humble yourself before God and set your eyes on Him by saying “yes” daily to His path and His promises? Will you take the chance to rub the vision of worldly views from your eyes and sacrifice them in order to see God with fresh eyes?

Take a few steps backward today! Look up into the face of Jesus and open your eyes to the goodness that is found in Him. Adore Him, thank Him and worship Him. God loves us so dearly and is waiting for us to say “yes” in complete obedience.

Dear Lord,

May we all walk with clear vision today and everyday. May we clearly see the adoration in Jesus’ eyes because we have rubbed the worldliness from our own eyes. We love and praise you for the richness you have given our lives. We love you and pray all this in your name, Lord! AMEN!

Please share your prayer for fresh vision today!
