Along the way to brave faith, there is a process of evolving, the chance to unfold into who God has always planned we would be. If we were already brave, we wouldn’t need this series or dare I say we wouldn’t need God. But we are imperfect people who strive for perfection and the only way to reach that goal is to step out with God into the unknown that God makes known. Preston Yancey writes very simply that Jesus isn’t going to call the already brave. His words were an eye opener for me to the possibilities of how our progress is contingent on choosing to move forward into becoming.

How will you move forward into becoming today? Now that you know God does not choose the already brave, does this help you to know that you can attain brave faith?
Let’s keep becoming to reach brave along the way!

Such a great reminder! Our MOPS theme last year was “Be You, Bravely,” and God used orchestrated that theme in me as I was called to speak up in several areas of my life — places that required confrontation, which I do NOT like… for a while there, my life had way more drama than I like, and I so wished I could have let things slide. But there are some things so important that God calls us to NOT be quiet about them. I know it was only through prayer, and leaning on Jesus, that I was able to go forth bravely — it’s not me; He makes me brave!
God does make us brave and also knows that we cannot be brave alone. I will write on that more later in the week. I applaud you for leaning on God to lead you bravely through life’s struggles. What a blessing it must have been for you! Thank you so much for being here. Your words were needed for this conversation.
Hi Mary, I like this God doesn’t call the Brave to do brave things He calls the “becoming Brave”…
Lovely thoughts Mary
God Bless
The quote is from Preston Yancey and if you know anything about his current story , you know he understands what brave is. Thank you for joining me today.
So profound and yet “DUH” regarding God calling the not-brave. I will ponder on that. May I post your graphic/quote on my fb page.
You may definitely post my graphic on your Facebook page. I would love if you would steer them back to me. Thank you for being here today. I hope to see you again.
This reminds me of the story of Gideon in the winepress, hiding from his enemies and the angel came to him calling him, “Mighty Warrior!” ha! I think God sees the potential we have in Him and I am so glad He does! Thanks for this shot of inspiration, Mary!
God always sees our potential long before we even have an inkling. Gideon is a wonderful example to connect today’s quote. I feel like Gideon often because I will question myself and others on so many things to understand why I have been asked to do something that I do not feel I am qualified to do. Thank you for reminding me of Gideon and for being here to join the conversation.
Those words are eye opening for me too!
The reassurance that we all can be brave by letting God mold us and teach us, no matter how brave we think we are, is eye opening to me. In my eyes I am not qualified to do things I see others doing for God, but He knows when He needs us and then we need to be ready to say “yes’. Love seeing you here!
So thankful we don’t have to be all equipped and ready and that He’ll call us and use us in spite of ourselves. Bravery is not a term I apply to myself, but I am learning to walk with Him through ANYthing!
You are brave when you choose God. The beauty is that He makes us brave as we walk with Him. Thank you for being here, Carol and thank you for sharing your words so beautifully at Anita’s.
This quote goes nicely with the one about God not calling the equipped, but equipping the called :). I’m working on my brave this month–but I’m journeying with my daughter and we have the Holy Spirit at our sides!
Absolutely! God’s words should always be our “go to” source for truth. It’s reassuring that God chooses each of us even when we feel we are not qualified. I am praying for you and your daughter during this journey. Hugs friend!
So true, Mary. We can be thankful of this, and reassured that God doesn’t call the equipped but He does equip the call, and who He appoints, He anoints. Our biblical heroes (and heroines) are a case in point for courage and strength coming as they fully rely on God alone rather than their own limited human resources. Thank you for this encouraging word. 🙂 x
We are nothing without God and we would do well to look to the Bible heroes and heroines to remind us of this truth. I love how you said, “who He appoints, He anoints”. That is a truth that I would like to live out in my won life. Thank you for walking with me through this brave journey.
Emily P. Freeman wrote, “God does not ask you to manage outcomes, he simply asks you to come out.” Thanks for your reminder to be Brave and trust God with the outcome.
I can never get enough good words from Emily. Here words never fail to teach and uplift. I am grateful that you stopped by here today and joined in the conversation. Have a blessed week!
Beautiful! I love “the becoming brave!” Reminds me of Phil. 2:13, “For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.”
Thank you for sharing the connection to Philippians 2:13. That gives me another perspective that helps me as I journey to brave faith. Praying that you have a week that is blessed by God.
I struggle with being brave…thank you for “shifting my vision” to recognize that it is through the act of stepping out when I don’t feel brave that I am becoming brave!
I don’t have to BE brave…and that’s okay because I am BECOMING brave!
We are always becoming in all areas of our life as God chooses to reveal “what’s next”. I believe the same is true of bravery. It is a process that we can embrace to learn how to walk with God toward brave faith. Thank you so much for being here and for joining in the conversation.
Becoming brave is quite the process and I’ve experienced fits and starts along the way. Grateful for a Father who is always encouraging me in the becoming
Well,I am not sure that I will ever reach brave or know it fully but I agree that we have a good Father who wants us to know brave and Him. He will guide us along the way. Praying your trip to Disney is uneventful and that the rain stops soon!
Mary,
So true that Jesus doesn’t call the “already brave”. I take heart in the rag-tag bunch he assembled to be his disciples. He chose Abraham and Moses who had their own doubts, excuses, and flaws. Truly encouraged by this thought this morning!! Enjoying reading along with you!
Blessings to you this Sunday,
Bev xx
There is comfort in knowing that God does not call the qualified. This gives us just as much opportunity to work for His kingdom which is what I believe brave is all about. I’m so glad you are on this journey with me. Hope your Sunday is blessed too.
