Move Over Monday!!!!
The Fall colors were vivid and brilliant a week ago and sent me a message of renewed hope. The weather chills overnight but warms up as the day progresses. The sunshine provides the perfect backdrop for the yellows, oranges and deep reds. Everything about Fall feels crisp, fresh and re-energizing.
Then Winter bumps into Fall…
As I looked out my back window recently I was presented with a picture of what was to come. The image in my sight was one of dull, nondescript grasses waving a salute against the brilliance of a backdrop of yellow leaves. Winter snuck into my Fall and left me with a sense of dread.
As I cherished the crispness of Fall and the splash of colors – Winter stole my calm and replaced it with the “blahs” that will soon come with the change in weather. Winter bumped into my Fall and sucked the “happy” right out from under me!
Too often – one look, one word, one change – causes a moment of joy to instantly become a shadow of gloom. The positive energy that was so present got bumped into a tiny seed of doubt or unhappiness and the joy is gone. I say all this not to remind you how easily our moods and outlook can change, but by pointing out this fact – hopefully we can stop it in midair.
I know how Winter can bump into my happy – gray days, cold seeping into every pore, darkness settling in even before the work day is over – the list could go on. However, I challenge myself and all of you to not let Winter steal your happy this year. Turn to the God of joy and be reminded He delights in each one of us. The joy of the Lord is our strength and it is His daily gift to each of us.
When Winter threatens to bump into your happy, remember the Lord delights in each of you! Reflect on the verses below and let God change your gray into color and your “Blahs” into joy!
19 He brought me out into a spacious place;
he rescued me because he delighted in me. Psalm 18:19
4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Philippians 4:4
This day is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” Nehemiah 8:10

Oh, I’m feeling it too, Mary. I just hate to see the beautiful leaves falling and leaving bare trees, the cold chill of a much too early winter and dark/short days that make we want to stay inside all the time! But once I adjust to it, I like winter too. I suppose God gave us four seasons so we’d never be bored! 🙂 So let’s join together and not let winter bump into our happy, since, as you’ve pointed out, we have every reason to rejoice in the Lord! Great thoughts, my friend!
I am with you on how winter can suck the happy right out of your days! Our big solution this year was to finally move from NH to TN. 🙂
The days do get long, and it is dark so early, and even in TN it can get cold. However, your advice is right on the money. We can find joy right where we are by changing our focus. Thanks for the reminder!
You’re welcome and thank you for stopping by. I live in the Midwest and last week the weather was still hovering close to 60 and this week we are in the 20s overnight. Brrrr!!! The reminder that our choices can bring us warmth from the joy we choose is one I need daily. Blessings!
Winter makes me very blah too. And today the weather turned chill here and we realized the warm fall days were officially over. Time to pull out the long johns. But the good news is it is also time to count blessings like a warmish house, hot chocolate and hot water heaters! Thanks for your encouragement today!
Thank you for stopping by. Love knowing I’m not alone but especially love knowing that we can move forward together.
