Three years ago, I sat in a large room at a writing conference. Two ladies joined the table where I was sitting with a good friend. My life is considerably better because of these three women. Today I want to introduce you to one of these ladies, Debbie Kitterman. She has grown from feeling unsure of her gift of writing to this point in time. Today, her book, The Gift of Prophetic Encouragement launches into the world. God is using Debbie not only through the words in this book, but through the message He wants us to know.
What I know after reading The Gift of Prophetic Encouragement is how much God craves relationship with us. In that desire, God asks us to #BeTheGift and share His encouragement with those people we meet along the way. I love to encourage others, but through Debbie’s book I feel empowered to not only encourage others, but see how this multiplies as we put “courage” into others to do the same. As I reached the end of Debbie’s book, I knew that this was only the beginning. Her practical applications throughout the book spur me on to begin my own journey of prophetic encouragement.
Title: Coffee Shop Conversations
By: Debbie Kitterman
I have a confession.
I’m a people watcher.
Yes, it’s true. I love to just sit in a coffee shop or restaurant and observe people. It’s fun, it’s intriguing and eye-opening.
Not too long ago, I was sitting in a coffee shop visiting with my friend. We were discussing ministry when a young woman in her twenties approached us. She had stopped by to say hi and get a hug from my friend. I recognized her from a few months before when she had stopped by our table, but I didn’t know her name.
I watched as they chit-chatted with one another and when she was about to leave, I stopped her and said, “Something about you has changed since I saw you last. I know you got your hair cut, but it’s more like there is a lightness and a joy in you that wasn’t there the last time we saw you.”
She laughed, tilted her head and said, “what?”
I went on to explain that the last time she had stopped by our table just a few months before, she was carrying a burden and felt weighed down by life. However, today there was something different about her… something had changed. She had decided to stop running and let God in.
Wide eyed she looked at me and said, “How did you know that? I just told God the other day that I was tired of doing it my way and being rebellious. That I was giving up and would let Him have the reigns of my life.” She went on to tell me that she didn’t like to relinquish control to anyone, let alone God.”
I listened as she went on to describe some rather rebellious behavior for a believer which she had just participated in a few nights before. She said it was that night, she decided she was tired of doing it her way, that she might as well try it God’s way. But she confessed she wasn’t very good at trusting God and she was a little worried about this new found trust.
I shared a few more things with her that encouraged her in the direction she was already stepping out in. She said goodbye to my friend and then went on her way, with a bounce in her step.
As soon as she was gone, my friend leaned in across the table and at the same exact time as we were laughing said, “How did you know that!?!” It’s a running joke with my friend and me. You see, we both step out in prophetic encouragement. We both look for opportunities to bless others by speaking words of life and hope to them. Almost every single time, the first question someone asks is: How did You know that?
I have found that many do not understand that God speaks today. I know I sure didn’t understand it for the first 20 years of my Christian walk. It’s not that we don’t believe He can speak, we just doubt He will speak to us. Some haven’t experienced it for themselves and if they have, they probably didn’t recognize it as such.
This is why I wrote the book, The Gift of Prophetic Encouragement. I want people to recognize that God is real, and He wants authentic relationship with us, which involves a two-way conversation. I believe as Christ followers we need to follow in the footsteps of Jesus. We need to follow His example and speak words of hope, life, and encouragement to others. Jesus clearly modeled and said in Scripture that He only did what the Father showed Him to do and He only said what the Father told Him to say (see – John 5:19;8:28;10:27; 12:49-50).
God is speaking all the time, we just need to learn to tune into His voice. He wants to raise up an army of believers who will release hope, strength, comfort, encouragement and speak life into others. Will you link arms with others and join His army of prophetic encouragers today?

Great writing!! Keep sharing the good stuff. Wish you all the best.
I knew this book was coming out soon, and am happy for Debbie it’s now out there to bless others. Prophetic words is something that intrigues me, and love to learn more about it! I’ve been blessed by them, however not sure where I fit in the messenger side of things! I sure see how people want to be seen, and known and being a messenger of God can bring so much to someone’s day just like Debbie did for that young girl.
Thank you so much, Lynn. I am so glad that you have had the opportunity to be blessed by receiving prophetic words. They can be powerful 🙂 As far as where you fit in on the messenger side of things, I talk about it in more depth, but basically it’s for all of us, even at the basic level… I share an analogy of a swimming pool and we can all wade into the shallow end, but not all are called to the deeper levels. Thank you for taking the time to comment and share your testimony here. 🙂

In Debbie Kitterman’s book:
The Gift of Prophetic Encouragement: Hearing the Words of God for others
These are the things that really resonate with me:
Have you ever longed for someone, maybe even God, to speak encouragement straight to your heart? Have you ever needed to know that despite the pain, despite the heartache, that God saw you?
Oh yes Lord Jesus I truly have!
provide love, support
Love and support are so vital!
My middle niece had a miscarriage with her first and only pregnancy, so we have never having given birth in common a club nobody wants to belong in. Even though we have many issues we do not agree on I am always her Love, Support, and Encouragement when she cannot deal with her situation and just needs a hug and understanding even if it is virtual. Thank You Lord Jesus for using me to offer this support and lifting me in the process!
Yes, even Jesus!
Jesus had seemingly non-eventful conversations and encounters with people all the time. Yet, they weren’t non-eventful to the individual He was speaking to, because Jesus speaks words of life. Jesus meets people in their context and speaks words of destiny with the power to unlock, break open, and bring freedom.
God put her in my path at the right time.”
It is truly the work of the Holy Spirit!
Are you willing to #BeTheGift of encouragement someone needs today?
Are you willing to share the things He puts on our heart to share with others?
Will you be courageous to step out in obedience to His voice?
I believe:
That is why the Holy Spirit draws us together to lift prayer and 🎉 🎉 🎉 Praise God in unity!
It shows the evil one God reigns through His children on earth as it is in heaven!
Amen.
I asked Debbie the question? What made you decide on your title?
And she answered:
actually Chosen Books came up with the title. the working title was much different… radically ordinary prophecy — but put radical and prophecy in a sentence and some people would really run from it. LOL 🙂 great question
Today in my Facebook memories my request to pray for my niece appeared if you are reading this I would be honored if you would Please & Thank You lift a prayer for her.
Thank You Mary for the opportunity to win Debbie’s book!
You highlighted some of the best parts debbie’s book. Thank you for sharing the story about your niece. It sounds like God used you for encouragement during that difficult time.I am praying for your niece and I hope you win the book!

YAY Bettie G! I am so excited you got your book. God does have so much love for us to share with others. Blessings to you too.
I’m so thankful that God still speaks today! And I’m glad there are servants like Debbie who are listening and passing along what they hear.
Debbie is a beautiful example of how God speaks today. Her book is the wonderful result of her faithfulness. The book reminds us that we all are called to encourage others.
Thank you so much Lisa! I am so very thankful that God still speaks today too. I didn’t understand that for a long while, but now that I do, I want everyone to know this powerful truth.
Debbie, I’m so excited for you that your book baby has launched! I loved the story you shared about the encouragement God gave you to share. 🙂
I have a mentor who I know God showed her things to share with me. Things I had never told her God used that conversation to begin some deep healing in me. Though I have the gift of encouragement, I think I need to seek out God more and practice seeing people through His eyes to better use this gift. 🙂
Congratulations!
I love that you have a mentor that speaks life into you. What a blessing! It sounds like you are ready to read Debbie’s book. She encourages, equips, and empowers the reader to become an encourager for God. Blessings dear friend!
Jeanne – Thank you so much! It has been an exciting week for sure. I love that God has placed a mentor in your life that speaks prophetic encouragement over you. It is so amazing and an incredible blessings to be on the receiving end, but it is also just as much a blessing to be the giver of such words of encouragement. I hope you will be able to check out my book soon. 🙂 Blessings

You are most welcome Connie – thanks for taking the time to read and comment 🙂
Congratulations on your book baby, Debbie! God IS with us and will fight for us–we just have to give him permission (and what a difference it makes in our lives!).
Thank you Anita! It is so much like a baby when a book comes into the world. LOL and yes, it makes a huge difference in our lives when we give Him permission
This book looks amazing! And I have no doubt with Debbie as the author there is wonderful wisdom to be gained through it. I knew when I spent that brief period with her years ago that she had important things to say to the world. I’m thrilled to see her getting the opportunity to do just that. I’ll definitely add this book to my reading list. Thanks so much for the gathering and recommendation, Mary!
Thank you Candace! You words are such a blessing to me. I was so very glad that we got to meet over 3 years ago, even if it was only briefly. Thanks for adding the book to your reading list, I know you will love it.
Being part of Debbie’s journey the past three years has been such a learning experience for me. It also has been fun to watch her grow in her gifts and her ability to embrace writing as one of these gifts. I hope you win the book but if not, it is one you will want to read.
This is a new concept to me but I am so intrigued and would love to read her book. If you recommend it, I know it’s good! I’m on my own spiritual journey of opening up to the Holy Spirit’s leading in my life and I’m sure this would be a good resource. Thanks for sharing!
LeeAnn – my book would be perfect for you. I share my own journey of opening up to the Holy Spirit and how stepping out in encouragement is somethings we can all do. 🙂
Thank you for sharing how God is opening your heart to Holy Spirit. It is such a transforming process. Debbie’s book would be the perfect resource for you as you learn more. Good to see you today, LeeAnn!
This sounds like a great book. Words of encouragement, and especially prophetic ones, have such power to make a big difference to someone’s life. I think it would be great for all of us to learn to grow in this.
Thanks Lesley! I agree, words of prophetic encouragement are so very powerful and can make a world of difference. 🙂
It is a wonderful book and you say it well – encouraging words have the power to make a big difference. Thank you for being here, Lesley!
Sounds like a great book!
Thanks Tracy! I hope you will consider purchasing it, unless of course you win a copy 🙂
It is! I hope you win!!
Mary – Thank you so much the honor of being a guest today at #TellHisStory and share with your community. I am blessed beyond words at your generosity and your support. I am so glad our paths crossed over 3 years ago…. wow has it only been 3 years?!!!! A lot of relationship has happened in that time. Thank you again. Blessings. I will be back later to link up too. 🙂
It is a blessing to have your words here today. Your book is one that is needed to demystify prophecy but also one that will teach us what it looks like to be an encourager for God. I pray that your book gets into the hands of many and that God is honored in the process. Love you!
Thank you Mary! 🙂 I agree, as I came against opposition at different stages of the launch, I felt like the book is filling a need “for such a time as this” 🙂 Thank you for your love and support.
Your book is the perfect example of “for such a time as this”. You did an amazing job launching it into the world.
So often, we think of the gift of encouragement as something for a specific, or select, few…when God wants us all to be encouragers. I think a book that helps any of us encourage better – and more often – would be a valuable read, for sure. Thanks for sharing!!
Oh yes, Jennifer I completely agree with you! It’s not for the select few and we need to learn to both be better encouragers and to step out and encourage more often! Thanks for taking the time to comment and being here today.
You’re welcome! What I love about Debbie’s book (which is everything) is that because we have direct access to God and are called to be in relationship with Him, we care called to be encouragers. There is no social qualification except for being a child of God. So yes, God wants us all to be encouragers.
I enjoy reading your posts. I am constantly getting new fodder to chew on as I grow in the graces of my Lord and Savior.
Thank you for being here, Terisa! I pray God continues to bless you and grow in His grace and love.
Debbie, you are doing a masterful job in getting the word out about Prophetic Encouragement.
And Mary, I loved your story on Instagram yesterday. I keep thinking I need to figure out that part of the world . . .
Thank you so much Michele – I am thinking Mary needs to teach me how to do an Instagram story – her’s are so awesome. And, thank you also Michele, I had a wonderful team of amazing people helping me share and spread the word about prophetic encouragement. 🙂 Blessings to you
Debbie did an amazing job. I have been on a lot of launch teams but this one was amazing. I imagine Debbie is worn out! Thank you for the Instagram story love. It’s new and scary!!
I am so intrigued and excited about this book because I love to encourage others by using God’s prophetic gifting. Can’t wait to get it home to my comfy chair and begin joining Ms. Debbie Kitterman on this journey!
Thank you ever so much Lisa! I am excited for today as the book releases, but more excited that more people will be activated and encouraged to step out in a gift that is so desperately needed today! Blessings
You are a wonderful encourager. This book will open your eyes to how God calls all of us to encourage but also provides practical application as to what that looks like. I hope you win!!! 🙂
