A rainy and cool month of June, plus a hotter and more humid July have given me the summertime blues. All the rain and now the heat have affected this girl’s love for walking outdoors. My summer rhythm looks more like participating in indoor activities instead of my usual trail walking and photographing beauty along the way. For someone who loves routines, I’m feeling a bit like a fish out of water.

I know every season has its challenges but the summertime blues have me in a slump. Anyone else feeling this way too??

If I let myself, I can easily lose sight of the beauty around me and the joy one little detail brings to my day. I have a vase of beautiful flowers from my local grocery store brightening up my living room. There is a sweet picture of Baby Jack that sits on the end table next to my favorite spot on the couch. And nearby, laying on a tray on the ottoman are my favorite books just waiting for some love.

The days when the weather cooperates I venture outside to one of my favorite parks to hike and take photos of the hidden beauty God leaves just for me. I have a choice to focus on the summertime blues or look for the details left behind.

Maybe it has been hot and miserable where you live too. Or maybe summer is a season that you either love or hate. No matter the reason we all can find challenges in any season. Let’s intentionally choose joy over struggle; hope instead of trouble and the grace to be kind to ourselves when the blues intrude.

I’ve put together some Bible verses to help us overcome the blues.

And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast (1 Peter 5:10)

But those who hope in the Lord
    will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint (Isaiah 40:31)

Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus (Philippians 1:6)

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose (Romans 8:28)

For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal (2 Corinthians 4:17-18)

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance (James 1:2-3)

There are so many good verses to remind us of God’s strength, hope, grace, and power in our weakness. These are just a few that speak to me.

The promises laid out in the verses show me who God is and how He will care for me.

God says:

  • He will restore me and make me strong and steadfast
  • He will renew my strength and I will run and not grow weary
  • The work He begins He will complete
  • My troubles will lead to eternal glory
  • And when my faith is tested God provides the perseverance I need

I love that the same promises God has for me, He also has for you. These sound like the perfect cure for the blues to me. What are some promises from God that help you through when life throws you a curveball? Please share in the comments.

***Sometimes God drops amazing opportunities into our laps and we know without a doubt we are supposed to say “yes.” Next week I am headed to Bethel for their Wonder women’s conference. I would love your prayers but also your grace as I will take the week off from writing and hosting #TellHisStory.

#TellHisStory Link Up

Each week we gather here as storytellers, word weavers, and encouragers to make His name known. Our story is God’s story and this small corner of the blogging world, where we come together each Tuesday, needs you. This is a place where poetry, snapshots, prayers, and stories find a safe spot to nod in agreement that what we have to say matters.

I am glad you are here and would love to have you join the #TellHisStory community. Add your own encouraging post through the link below. Spread some love by visiting your neighbor and leave your own encouragement. Add the #TellHisStory button to your post so others can join in on the fun. Click HERE to get the button.
